Boys Varsity Baseball · Baseball Falls To Poway In Extra Innings

The Falcons Baseball team lost to Poway yesterday 6-5 in eight innings in the CIF Open Playoffs. The team will travel to Helix for the second round on Friday at 3:30.

Falcons lost the lead late in a 6-5 defeat to Poway on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with Falcons batting in the top of the sixth when Gavin Hunter homered on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Falcons got things started in the first inning when Steven Lancia drew a walk, scoring one run.

Poway evened things up at five in the bottom of the seventh inning when Trevor Tishenkel doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

After Falcons scored one run in the top of the fourth, Poway answered with one of their own. Falcons scored when Hunter hit a solo homer. Poway then answered when Robby Williams drew a walk, scoring one run.

Dylan Moran took the win for Poway. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over one inning, striking out two and walking zero. Danny Avila and Nick Salafia entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Tyler Bremner took the loss for Falcons. He surrendered four runs on four hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one.

Ivran Romero started the game for Poway. He surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out five Carter Foss started the game for Falcons. He lasted five innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five

Falcons smacked two home run on the day. Hunter put one out in the fourth and sixth innings.

Falcons racked up eight hits on the day. Lancia, Spencer Roos, and Hunter each collected multiple hits for Falcons. Lancia went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Falcons in hits.

Poway totaled ten hits in the game. Romero, Jack Sanders, Kyle Nevin, and Tishenkel all managed multiple hits for Poway.
